Strategy Overview
Crazy Eights rewards players who manage their hand carefully, anticipate opponents' needs, and time their special cards for maximum impact. While luck plays a role in the cards you draw, strong strategy consistently wins over time.
Core Principle: Control the suit, conserve your eights, and force opponents to draw.
Holding vs Playing Eights
When to Hold Your Eights
Eights are the most powerful cards in the game. They are your escape hatch when no other play is available. Hold them when:
- You have multiple playable cards in your hand (save the 8 for later)
- You have cards in only one or two suits (the 8 lets you switch to a suit you hold)
- Opponents are close to going out (the 8 gives you flexibility to block)
- You are in the early or middle phase of the round
