The Cantonese Connection
Mau Binh is widely known locally as "Binh Xập Xám".
- Etymology: "Xập Xám" comes from the Cantonese "Sap Sam" (十三), meaning Thirteen. This refers to the 13 cards dealt to each player.
- It was introduced to Southern Vietnam by the Chinese community in Cho Lon (Saigon) and quickly became a staple of Southern gambling culture.
